The Four Legged Turkey...

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

~ 1 Chronicles 29:13

The week of Thanksgiving, more than any other time prompts us to recall what we are thankful for. I want to share a picture of a treasured Thanksgiving memory and a person I am thankful for... my niece Becky.

Thanksgiving 1991, my then 7 year old niece Becky made this turkey for me.(I wrote the date and her age on the back so I would always remember when...) As you can see, my treasured turkey has 4 legs. After all, did a 7 year old understand that a turkey only has 2 legs... or was it wishful thinking? I mean 4 turkey legs would mean more food for everyone!

Every year this turkey comes out on November 1st and graces the front of our refrigerator. (I keep saying eventually I will frame him) My niece Becky is now 24 years old and has a baby of her own. How time flies! Although I treasure the gift of my four legged turkey, I treasure my sweet niece Becky more... she is one of the children the Lord gave to me when I cried out to him for a child. For her I am eternally grateful to my God!

I hope you have something as sweet as the gift of a four legged turkey and a wonderful child that you treasure. It's simple, it didn't cost a thing and it's worth is far more than gold!

Yes Lord, I give you thanks, and praise your glorious name! Amen!

That is precious! So glad you could "sit a spell" on my blog. I love my porches, but now that winter has hit I won't be out there much. We have a screened in back proch and hubby says he wants to get an outdoor heater for it!

Bless...Shell

On Sunday night, my daughter reminded me that she needed to "make" a turkey to take to school the next morning. At 8:00 PM, we were cutting and pasting and creating our version of a "princess turkey", complete with crown. I had to pause (if only briefly) for a minute while adding legs...2 or 4? I know. Say nothing.

Anyway, I am most thankful for my family this year, for their health and for mine. For a roof and a warm bed and for a pantry that is sufficient. Ask anyone who is lacking in any of these, and you're right...

we find our grateful quickly.

Happy Thanksgiving, friend. I am so grateful to God for putting you on my path!

Kristen...thank you for sharing part of your heart today in the comments of my blog. I am learning to discover and find freedom in every ounce of this body He created for me to live in. The journey isn't always easy, but the destination sure is.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving my friend!

How precious that is. My two nieces are the same thing for me. I think not having my beloved with me now has me for some reason thinking about adoption a lot. I never desired children when I was married but I think just being alone (without spouse) makes me want an initimate family beyond parents, brother, neices. I don't know.

Thanks for sharing your treasures. I say frame it and ensure its protection. :-)

Love it!

All of my most treasured home decor items are things my kids made... Some examples...I still have the napkin holder Kenneth made in 3rd grade on our center island, a plate Emily made for me on the kitchen wall and bookmarks by Anna to numerous to count! There are so many more, and each one is special! Thanks for sharing your four-legged turkey!

Or maybe it has four legs so he can run away faster to avoid being Thanksgiving dinner! lol!

Based on what I know of you so far through your blog, Becky is so blessed to have you in her life.

Oh, I can so appreciate the beauty of this 4 legged turkey. Many of my "treasures" are things created by Brennan or my nieces and nephews, too. Priceless.

Hope you and your hubby have a wonderful, wonderful time of Thanksgiving.

Blessings,
Tracy

We had a thanksgiving dinner at work and a lady named Becky brought in a 4 legged turkey! I thought it interesting in this story the young girl was named Becky too! We ate it and yes, it was more turkey leg to eat! Blessings to all this year!
