What will I wear?

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear." ~ Luke 12:22

WhAt wIlL I wEaR?

Saturday evening I had a "mini" high school reunion. Facebook has allowed me and many of my former classmates the opportunity to get together from time to time. This gathering was a group of PMHS grads from the early to mid 80's. Of course one of the biggest decisions I had to make was "what am I going to wear?" I settled for a shirt I really don't like, but did pair the shirt with a skirt I like and some flip flops that just didn't go with the outfit (in my opinion).

Actually, I had gone to Target earlier in the day on Saturday looking for something new to wear. After all, I couldn't have asked for a better excuse than getting together with "old" pals to find something "new" that would make me look not so "old"! The Spirit kept pressing on my heart to "NOT" purchase an item or two of new clothing. Believe me... it was a battle! I WANTED something new! God was telling me I didn't NEED anything new! I walked out of Target only buying a jug of bleach. I called Jim from the car and told him I had driven all the way to Target for a bottle of bleach that cost $1.47. Grrrr!

I had to chuckle Sunday morning when Pastor was discussing the portion of scripture form Luke 12, referring to what we will wear. Didn't I just go through a "what to wear moment" the day before? How many times have you and I stood in front of our overflowing closets and exclaimed "I don't have anything to wear"? Um, well I have done that more times than I care to count. I did it the day before didn't I! If we really think about it... our comment about not having anything to wear actually translates to "I don't want to wear anything I have in my closet!" I love that His urging to "NOT" buy something on Saturday turned into a teaching moment on Sunday

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ~ Colossians 3:12

As women we love our clothes! At least I do! I am a sucker for cute clothes! New clothes... a good sale!  I have to confess Kohl's is a wonderful place (my favorite place to shop) and has wonderful sales! However, my beauty is not defined by my new cute top, those cute shoes, or a great fitting pair of jeans (although those luxuries God provides are wonderful gifts). When I exclaim "I have nothing to wear" I need to remind myself that as a chosen daughter of God that I do not have to worry about what I will wear (Luke 12:22) as He has provided me so much! And I do have something to wear! Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (Colossians 3:12) My true desire is to appreciate and acknowledge that God has given me all I need and has clothed me with His gifts and grace!

So the next time you stand in front of that closet wondering what to wear... think about these verses and ask yourself do I have nothing to wear or nothing I want to wear!  You might just be surprised by the answer!

God Bless!

Just this morning I was reading in Sarah Young's "Jesus Calling"... all about our clothing ourselves with righteousness... available to us because of Jesus. She told us to linger long in our robes of royalty and to walk our kingdom conferment (my words)with understanding. It created such a visual to me that I've been walking a bit differently today. Trust me when I tell you, I needed it.

Your post is a perfect fit with my thoughts today. Funny how that happens!

I so needed to hear this right now. Thank you for posting it and reminding us to be grateful for what we have and who we are in Christ.

I truly get it!!! I stood in my closet on Friday morning, found nothing to wear in the tons hanging around me, then went to Kristi's where she pulled out 60 cute new things for me to try on! I was successful and spent no money! I pray that I was clothed in a way God could be glorified for the wedding I attended out of town later that day. I was leaving there Saturday when I got the call about Kristi's accident. Those sweet moments of fun and laughter played over in my head as I thanked Him for keeping her close to Him during the wreck. That's the only way they survived.

Thank you for your prayers! She so appreciates them!

And, if that's your closet in the picture, you are amazing!!!
Hugs!

Owww...it's still summertime and I'm wearing my flip flops with no way to protect my toes from that message :)
Thank you, Kristen, loved that word from the Lord you shared. How blessed we truly are!
Blessings,
Miriam
p.s.-Kohls and TJMax are my favorites.
